The information I have collected (and used to birth my baby free from fear and from pain) has come from the book 'Hypnobirthing. The Mongan Method' written by Marie F Mongan. I also gained much insight from other women's wonderful birthing stories and testimonials (which I hope to include somewhere on this blog in the future).
It basically says that "Childbirth is not something that should be feared", that "childbirth is a normal, natural and healthy function for women".
The Wikipedia currently defines hypnobirthing as "an increasingly popular means of achieving a natural childbirth".
Throught the reading of the hypnobirthing book and the Australian hypnobirthing website I learned about the 'Pain-Tension-Fear' syndrome associated with today's birthing mothers. Because the majority of society presents the labour and birth process as painful etc, we naturally become fearful of the experience (who wouldn't be worried when at your 1st antenatel appointment they talk to you about the 'pain relief options' - straight away suggesting that your birth is going to be painful and that you will have to find a way to eliminate or if wanting a 'natural drug-free birth' then just 'deal' with the pain)
Hypnobirthing is not of this nature, through hypnobirthing we come to understand that the pain does not exist when the fear does not exist. By eliminating the fear we can eliminate the pain!
